The Beatles Weekend: “A Hard Day’s Night” and Documentary by Eric Green
Released 50 years ago, A Hard Day’s Night depicts the Fab Four playing wily, exuberant versions of themselves and captures the moment when they became the singular, irreverent idols of their generation and changed music forever. Directed with raucous, anything-goes verve by Richard Lester, the film features numerous iconic pop anthems amid a series of slapstick and zany happenings. The Beatles Boston is a 10-minute documentary by Eric Green about the band’s history with the City: the concerts they played, their fan base and their connections to Boston. It features interviews with Cha-Chi Loprete, host of WZLX’s Breakfast with the Beatles; Andrew Arsenault, who saw the 1964 Boston Garden and 1966 Suffolk Downs concerts; and Tim Riley, NPR critic and Beatles author, along with archival footage and visits to related locations.
