You are here:

Boston, MA—The West End Museum is taking part in Greater Boston’s Jazz Week by hosting A Night of Original Compositions by John Licata on Saturday, April 26 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The John Licata Quartet will feature Licata on trombone, Mark Michaels on guitar, Dave Gold on bass and Tom Goodkind on drums. The group will perform a selection of Licata’s own works. The concert is open to all ages, and pre-registration is required. Admission is $10; $5 for Museum members. Space is limited, so advanced ticket purchase is recommended. To pre-register and purchase tickets, visit thewestendmuseum.org/whats_on/eventOregistration. (Media note: an image of Licata can be downloaded here under “more actions.”)

For more than 40 years, John Licata has perfected his craft as a jazz trombonist and composer. Over the course of his career, he has played with such jazz greats as Jimmy Dorsey, Alan Dawson and Danilo Perez. He also has performed with a wide variety of other acts, including Shirley Jones, Ray Bolger, The Platters, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Stevie Wonder, The OJs, David Ruffin, Fabian and Bobby Rydell.

Licata is best known locally for his around-town-gigs with jazz giants Joe Lovano and George Garzone, Chas MacCann and former Stan Getz drummer Joe Hunt. Licata’s range is memorialized on his four jazz CDs, which feature some of New England’s best jazz musicians.

Jazz Week ’14: No Walls runs from Friday, April 25 to Sunday, May 4 with dozens of events scheduled throughout Greater Boston. The 10O-day celebration of the music and the area’s unique jazz scene ties in with the Smithsonian’s national observance of April as Jazz Appreciation Month and Duke Ellington’s birthday on April 29.
