Trees of Thoreau Path Art Competition
TREES OF THOREAU PATH ART COMPETITION
A collaboration between The West End Museum & WE Tree Boston.
The West End Museum and WE Tree Boston invite artists, neighbors, and tree-lovers to participate in Trees of Thoreau Path, an art competition and exhibition celebrating the beauty, significance, and importance of trees in our West End community.
How to Participate:
The competition launches on Community Clean-Up Day, April 26, 2025. Artists will have from April 26 to June 1 to create and submit their work.
All submitted works will be displayed in a special exhibition at The West End Museum from June 4–8, 2025, with a special art show event on June 7.
Theme & Objective:
Artists are invited to create works inspired by the trees of Thoreau Path—a cherished green space in the West End. Submissions should highlight the presence, beauty, and environmental importance of these trees, fostering awareness of tree preservation and appreciation in our community. Related imagery is welcome if accompanied by a thoughtful concept linking it to the theme of sustaining West End greenery.
Submission Requirements:
- Artwork must focus on trees located along Thoreau Path; in the West End; or related imagery with a strong conceptual connection.
- Medium: Open to all visual art forms, including painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, and digital art.
- Written Explanation: Each submission must include a short artist statement (200–300 words) explaining the work’s subject matter, its connection to the theme, and how it has influenced the artist’s perspective on the importance of trees in the West End. This can be emailed to Grace (grace@thewestendmuseum.org).
- Deadline for Submission at WEM: June 1, 2025. Please bring your work into WEM at the front desk between May 28-June 1.
Exhibition, Show, & Awards:
All submitted works will be showcased at The West End Museum from June 4–8, 2025 in our Special Exhibit Gallery as part of a mini-exhibit.
A special reception and art show on June 7, 3-5 PM, will feature a People’s Choice Award, where attendees vote for their favorite piece. The winner will receive a prize from The West End Museum.
