The Early Settlers of the West End (1630 – 1645): Richard Cooke, Tailor
Richard Cooke was a tailor married to Elizabeth. Their son, Dr. Elisha Cooke Sr, would go on to serve as a physician and the Speaker of the Massachusetts Bay Assembly. After his death in 1673, Richard left his money to the church and to building what was then “New College” in Cambridge, which would eventually become Harvard University.
