The Early Settlers of the West End (1630 – 1645): Thomas Buttolph, Leather-Dresser
Thomas Buttolph came to Boston in 1635 on the ship Abigail with his wife Ann. His house was situated at Washington St, north of Court Street. Thomas worked as a leather-dresser. Present-day Irving St was called Buttolph Street until the mid-19th Century, originally derived from Thomas’ surname.
