James Browne
The Early Settlers of the West End (1630 – 1645): James Browne, Carpenter
James Browne was a joiner – or carpenter – by trade. He bound himself to pay 6 pence per year to support a school on Spectacle Island, and had one child with his wife Grace. Browne died in 1651 with a pair of properties in the West End near modern Emerson Place and the Lindemann Center.
